SIG Radio Control Kits

Active kits shown in BLACK

Discontinued kits shown in RED

Active kits, not in stock, in BLUE

Never Released kits shown in GRAY

NOTE: Clicking on most pics will bring them up, much enlarged, in another window.

It seems that I must put this statement on each page of the website.

I have NO affiliation

with

SIG Manufacturing Co.

I do not  have magical access to kits.  I do not  have a store that sells kits.

I do not  have access to, or sell kit parts.  I do not  create kits.

I do have a website that shows every kit SIG has ever put out.

 You are seeing it now.

Just for information purposes, many active kits have various spare parts available directly through the SIG website.  Each active kit on this page includes links to available kit plans and decal sheets.

First edition kit.

Acquired by Marty in New York state, an original SIG kit, doesn't even have the kit number assigned to it yet.

VERY early first edition kit.  Note the AMA application - dated 1966.  The kit isn't 100% complete, missing 3 smaller pieces, but the balsa framing for those pieces is there so they would easily be re-created.

In the pic below, upper left portion shows the missing parts.

The original 1955 design by Chuck Hollinger for Air Trails magazine, and the Air Trails article are available for download in .pdf form, as is the SIG building instruction book in .pdf form - just click the link below to locate and download:

Stratus

First engine run-up

First flight

FLIGHT TIPS - I'm adding this personal note as a "heads up" kinda thing.

Flying this aircraft is nothing short of FUN!  She's capable of anything that any other pattern plane is capable of, but at a somewhat more relaxed pace.  I regularly fly mine as if she were a 3-channel bird - using just the rudder to turn - and she acts a lot like a spirited trainer if you do it at about half-throttle.  VERY smooth maneuvers, always.

One item to be aware of, however.  The Stratus wing is THICK, 20% of chord overall.  The leading edge is quite blunt also.  This means that she's certainly no "speed demon" in the air - even with my OS-.61sf and 12X6 prop I don't think mine passes much over 60mph at any given time.

This also means that when you're landing her, you'll want to keep some throttle going - don't try to do a gentle glide slope with the engine idled.  If you do, she's going to simply drop out of the air.

This is experience talking.
